How do I play Codenames online?

To play Codenames online with Cryptik, simply create a game room, invite your friends by sharing the unique game code, choose your roles as spymaster or operative, and start giving clues or guessing words. The game works in any modern web browser.

Is Cryptik free to play?

Cryptik's standard and Duet games are free to play. Optional word packs are available to buy, but you do not need them to play with friends.

How many players can join a game?

Cryptik supports 2-16 players per game. For the best experience with the standard game mode, we recommend 4-8+ players divided into two teams. The Duet mode is perfect for 2 players.

Can I play Cryptik on mobile devices?

Yes, Cryptik works perfectly on all devices including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. The interface automatically adapts to your screen size for the best gaming experience wherever you are.

Duet mode is a cooperative 2-player variant of Codenames where you work together instead of competing. You give each other clues to find all the agents while avoiding the assassin. It's perfect for playing with a partner or when you have fewer players available.

Cryptik is a team word game operated by Sami Studio. This page explains the information used to run the game, support gameplay, and process account deletion.

Information used by the game

Your player name is used to identify you in a room and show your name to the other players in that room.
An authentication credential is stored in your browser so the game can keep your identity between visits.
When identity recovery is needed, the game may use information from your device and browser to help recognize your account.
If you provide an email address through a website account feature, it may be stored with your identity.
Game participation, room state, card votes, hints, and player statistics are used to operate games and show your progress.
If you submit a bug report, the report text and the technical context attached to that report are used to investigate the issue.

Google Play build

The Google Play build is a free gameplay version for guest identities. It does not expose the website email save or recovery entry point, Google Analytics, Monetag ads, Ko-fi donation links, or Stripe checkout links. It uses the Cryptik game service and its API to create rooms, join rooms, and synchronize gameplay.

Account deletion

Use the Delete account action in the game lobby or an active game settings panel to start deletion. After successful deletion, the identity record, display name, email, authentication credentials, device signals, active-game list, and statistics are deleted or removed. If an email address is stored, it is removed with the identity. Retained game records can be anonymized so other players and operational history remain consistent. Payment records are retained when required for financial record integrity.

Retention and contact

Account information is stored while your account is active. When you use Delete account, identity details and personal references are removed as described above.
